Seasons of Change: Finding Calm in Life’s Transitions

Wisdom from Sofia Sloth

ree

September has always felt like a month of change. The days grow shorter, the air shifts, and routines begin to settle into a new rhythm. This is why my September newsletter focuses on Seasons of Change: Embracing Life’s Transitions.

Transitions can be exciting, but they can also feel unsettling. Whether it’s a new school year, a career shift, navigating health changes, or simply adjusting to the pace of a new season, it's important to remember to breathe through it.

.

In my upcoming children’s book, Finding Calm: Sofia’s Day at the Park, this theme of transition shows up through the gentle journey of Sofia Sloth. Sofia who is hesitant when she enters the park, unsure of who she will meet and what games she will discover. But then she meets Tai Turtle, who shows her the beauty of slowing down, breathing deeply, and savoring each moment. Before long, all of her forest friends are learning how to be more mindful.

Just like Sofia, we all face moments when change feels unfamiliar or even overwhelming. What if, instead of rushing through, we embraced these seasons with curiosity?

  • A career shift can be an invitation to rediscover your strengths.

  • Midlife transitions can open the door to deeper meaning and joy.

  • Healing after illness can become a practice of learning new rhythms.

Nature shows us that change is constant—yet every season carries beauty if we’re willing to notice.

🌿 A Mindful Practice for Transition

When you’re in the middle of change, try this:

  1. Pause. Take three slow breaths.

  2. Notice. Ask yourself: What is shifting in my life right now?

  3. Allow. Instead of resisting, whisper to yourself: This is a season. I can move through it with grace.

Like Sofia in the park, we can learn to meet change not with fear, but with presence and curiosity.

💗 A Note from My Heart

Writing Finding Calm has reminded me that children’s stories often carry timeless truths for adults. Sofia’s gentle exploration mirrors the way many of us step into new seasons, with hesitation, but also with the potential for wonder. My hope is that as you navigate your own transitions, you find moments of calm, sunlight, and stillness along the way.
